Tusco Wraps Up 50th Year with a Memorable Annual Safety Days Event

As we close out 2024, Tusco reflects on a year defined by growth, achievement, and an unwavering commitment to health and safety. Our annual Safety Days, held from November 25-27, was at the heart of these efforts. This year’s event was a powerful reminder of how Tusco’s safety culture continues to innovate, educate, and inspire.

Leadership Setting the Tone

Tusco’s President, Brent Martina and Executive Vice President, Philip Emerson led the event, reinforcing the importance of safety as a cornerstone of the company’s core values. They shared the successes of Tusco’s 2024 safety program, including achieving key milestones like the Innovation in Safety Award from ABC Alabama and advancements in employee training and engagement. Additionally, they outlined Tusco’s ambitious safety goals for 2025, emphasizing a continued focus on zero accidents, mental health awareness, and ongoing training excellence.

Their words set an inspiring tone for the event, energizing employees to carry forward Tusco’s commitment to health, safety, and well-being into the new year.

Honoring Excellence in Driver Safety

In November 2023, Tusco launched a Driver Safety Program to promote safe driving practices across the team. This initiative elevated awareness and earned Tusco the Innovation in Safety Award from ABC Alabama—a testament to its positive impact.

We included a Driver Recognition Ceremony in our program to celebrate the success of our employees. During the ceremony, the top three drivers of the year were honored for their exceptional commitment to safety behind the wheel, embodying the program’s mission to reduce risks and protect lives.

Elevating Safety Through Training and Certifications

Safety Days allowed employees to renew essential certifications and participate in various safety training programs. From First Aid and CPR to OSHA certifications, these sessions equipped the team with the skills and knowledge to navigate challenges safely and effectively.

One standout feature was the VitalCog training for Suicide Prevention in Construction, completed by all crew leaders. Upon earning their VitalCog certifications, these leaders are better equipped to recognize and address mental health challenges—a critical step in reducing the stigma and providing support within the industry.

Giving Back Through Tusco Gives

This year’s Safety Days also coincided with the inaugural Tusco Gives project, showcasing the company’s dedication to community engagement. Employees from the office and field teams joined forces to install fencing at Tuscaloosa Christian School, creating a safer environment for students while demonstrating the values of teamwork and craftsmanship.

The success of Tusco Gives underscores our belief in building stronger communities alongside safer workplaces. This initiative will become an annual tradition, further solidifying Tusco’s role as a force for good in the places we call home.

Looking Back and Moving Forward

Safety Days 2024 exemplified Tusco’s steadfast commitment to a safety-first culture. The event highlighted the remarkable strides made this year, from leadership-driven goals to innovative programs and meaningful community contributions.

As we move into 2025, Tusco remains dedicated to empowering every employee with the tools, training, and support needed to succeed safely. Thank you to everyone who made Safety Days 2024 an unforgettable success!
